This months’ guest speaker was Leone Carroll from VisAbility. Leone presented on Access for All through Easy English, providing a background to the need for Easy English and the main features of an Easy English document, which combines accessibility and understandability of information available to everyone. Leone’s background is in speech pathology, having worked in various states of Australia and in the University Kebangsaan Malaysia. She learned Braille while in Malaysia (through UEBOnline) and obtained the Trans-Tasman Certificate of Proficiency in Unified English Braille in 2017 after returning to Australia. Leone has worked at VisAbility for about 3½ years in various roles, starting as a volunteer in the Audio studios, then as Braille Transcriber, as well as Speech Pathologist in the children’s and adults’ services.
