What is PWAC?
A favourite in the calendar for many accessibility minded people in Perth, this fantastic one day event is your chance to learn and share about web accessibility in a casual environment.
This year we are proud to be partnering with the W3C Australian Western Region Chapter, who are contributing guest speakers from the W3C in addition to an already amazing list of local speakers.
The Great Debate returns for it’s 9th round of shenanigans. This year we will argue about the idea that working remotely solves all our accessibility problems - if you feel strongly about this, or just like a good 3-minute rant, get in touch with Scott to join one of the teams.
Speakers
- Jeanne Spellman will bring us up to date with changes and progress on the development of WCAG 3. Jeanne is co-lead of the W3C’s Silver Task Force, and has extensive experience in accessible web development and training.
- Dr Marianna Lopez will speak about accessible, personalised and inclusive film and television experiences for visually impaired audiences.
- Geoff White from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries will share his experiences with accessibility in state government, how an individual department implements and maintains WCAG and dealing with COVID-19 communications.
Covid precautions
We want to make sure that everyone who attends Perth Web Accessibility Camp in person at VisAbility is safe from Covid. So we’ve put together a plan for us all.
- VisAbility requires everyone who attends in person to be vaccinated against Covid-19. During registration we’ll ask for your proof of vaccination or your exemption. If you’ve got it in the ServiceWA app or the Express Medicare app, just show that to us. If you’re using any other app or have a printed certificate, we’ll also need to see some proof of identification.
- We’ll be asking everyone to check in to VisAbility using the SafeWA app, the ServiceWA app, or by signing the contact register.
- Everyone attending at VisAbility will need to wear a mask at all times. Exceptions will be while you are eating or drinking, and presenters will take off their masks during their session. If you have a medical exemption from wearing a mask, we will need to see proof at registration when you arrive and will ask you to keep distance from anyone present who is immunocompromised. There will also be an outdoor area close by, where you can take a short break from wearing your mask.
- We’ll be promoting physical distancing during the day, and there will be hand sanitiser available for everyone.
- If you use a disposable mask we’d like you to dispose of it responsibly when you’re done with it, to protect VisAbility staff. We’ll have plastic bags to put used masks in before you put them in the bin. If possible we’d like you to snip the mask straps, so they don’t hurt wildlife if they get into the water system.
If you feel unwell on the day of the event, please stay home for the protection of other vulnerable people. You don’t have to miss out though! Let us know as soon as possible and we’re happy to switch you to an online event ticket.
If you have any concerns about your safety, please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information.
